We analyzed the top 600 cryptocurrencies on CoinMarketCap from June 30, 2019 to December 27, 2019, giving us a six month period to see how they stack up against each other.
Also worth mentioning is that ranking cryptocurrencies by price or market cap is really not an ideal way to judge their value. The market is full of garbage cryptos, with little or no use case, no interesting technology, clueless teams, etc, that have a value not reflected in their price. However, cryptocurrencies that have managed to do well in the last six months at least must have some good characteristics that may be an indicator of potential future value, since obviously someone values these coins and somehow the team has managed to convince most holders from dumping them during this bear market. Thus, we don’t know whether these cryptos are well-financed, whether they will have a decent use case in a few years, or if their tech even really works. But, there are a few things we DO know, and they are significant:
- Confidence: Holders outnumber sellers, indicating confidence from the people who know the coins best.
- Leadership: The team has somehow managed to convince holders not to dump it, indicating strong leadership.
- Hype: Someone believes in this coin, indicating good marketing skills that have convinced people that it’s a better bet than Bitcoin.
- Community: A tight community of believers is probably backing this cryptocurrency.
- Future Prospects: The market has been full of bad news for the past 6 months, dragging most cryptos down. However, a lot of owners of this coin must believe it has a good future despite the market changes and challenges.
